Elite League: Edinburgh Capitals 3, Fife Flyers 5

Edinburgh Capitals nightmare season continued when they lost 5-3 at home to arch rivals Fife Flyers who have won eight times in nine games in December.

It was the Murrayfield side’s 11th straight defeat and they remain rooted to the bottom of the 12-strong Elite League with only six points from 29 games.

Fife move on to 36 points taking them into the top five in the table and they have games in hand.

Earlier, Peter LeBlanc after two minutes and Liam Heelis with 38 seconds left of the first session, handed Fife a 2-0 lead.

But Capitals stormed back to take a 3-2 lead at the end of the middle period.

Pavel Vorobyev netted on the power play after 26 minutes and Nikita Kolesnikovs levelled four minutes later also on the power play.

And Igor Valeyev claimed the go-ahead goal on the power play 37 seconds after that.

But Shayne Stockton took advantage of a power play situation to level for Fife at 3-3 seven minutes later.

Flyers netted two goals in the final session thanks to Heelis after 51 minutes and Evan Bloodoff who scored on an empty net with 19 seconds left to complete a four-point weekend and extend their winning run to four games.
