Former Hibs player Danny Lennon has been appointed to the position of first team manager at Clyde.

Lennon, 48, enjoyed a playing career that spanned over 20 years in the Scottish senior game. Most significantly, this included his first club Hibernian, Raith Rovers, Partick Thistle and Cowdenbeath, where he retired from playing in 2008.

Lennon became manager of Cowdenbeath at the start of the 2008-09 season. He enjoyed immediate and significant success, winning back-to-back promotions and lifting the Fife club from League 2 to the Championship.

That achievement was recognised by Premiership side St. Mirren and he was appointed manager of The Buddies in the summer of 2010. He remained in the post for four seasons, all in the top flight, and in 2013 he led the Paisley club to their fourth major honour – a Scottish League Cup victory, thanks to a 3-2 win over Hearts at Hampden Park.

At the end of the 2013-14 campaign, Lennon left St. Mirren and, after a one-match caretaker position with the Scotland under-21 team, his next appointment was at Alloa Athletic at the end of the 2014-15 season. After winning through the Championship play-offs, The Wasps suffered a disappointing run of form in the opening half of the following campaign which led to him stepping down.

Following a thorough recruitment process and assessment of shortlisted candidates, Lennon’s appointment was confirmed this afternoon.

Clyde chairman Norrie Innes said:- “This exciting appointment comes on the back of an intensive fortnight for the club. Tony and Ian have done a great job in stepping up and galvanising the whole squad and it is only right that we firstly acknowledge their commitment in supporting the club through this disruptive period of transition. I personally thank them and I know they will have enjoyed and gained from the experience.

“To progress for the remainder of the season and beyond, we wanted to appoint a manager who has the requisite knowledge, experience and ability to develop each player further and strengthen the talents and capabilities of the team and staff.

“Danny, in preparation for his interview, attended the game against Stirling Albion and demonstrated his strong desire for the job by presenting his own detailed match analysis. He has a very impressive record and a substantial skill set which is what we need to develop a stronger footballing structure and positive culture within the club. This will be founded on the hard work we have carried out in our commercial and operational areas.

“Danny spoke with passion and intelligence and he very much welcomes the challenges ahead. We are committed to assisting and supporting the manager, staff and players in delivering better performances and results.”
