If you are taking part in this year’s Pedal for Scotland then part of the problem is not the cycle itself, but getting to the start and the finish.

Edinburgh Trams have it all sewn up this year as they will be running special ‘like only’ trams on 10 September 2017 to help riders get from Ingliston Park & Ride to Haymarket.

If you have a ‘Tram Transport’ wristband then there will be additional no-stop services both before and after the event.  There are various cycling challenges including the ‘Classic Challenge’ from Glasgow to Edinburgh and the 93 mile Big Belter which is the return trip between the two cities. The Royal Highland Centre is at the heart of the action on the day so the tram is the ideal way to get there.

Organised by Cycling Scotland, the cycling celebration regularly attracts over 10,000 riders, and the tram offers many of them a great way to get to and from the Centre, just a short distance from the Ingliston Park & Ride stop.

Dean Anderson, Edinburgh Trams Customer Experience Manager, explained:

“From 4am to 6.30am we’ll be running extra trams exclusively for ‘Tram Transport’ wristband holders taking part in the event, with non-stop services approximately every half hour from Haymarket to Ingliston Park & Ride.

“A dedicated return service, from Ingliston Park & Ride to Haymarket will operate in the afternoon between 11am and 6pm, and participants will need to book their tram transport in advance through Pedal for Scotland’s website.

“Of course, our regular services will be running as usual, but only two bikes are allowed per tram on regular services and cyclists will need to buy a ticket before boarding.”

Anyone who just wants to cheer on friends or family as they pass the finish line can also get there by tram, with fast, frequent services to Ingliston Park & Ride from locations such as the city centre and Edinburgh Airport.

Keith Irving, Cycling Scotland said:

“We’re pleased to have Edinburgh Trams on board for another year of Pedal for Scotland. By supporting participants and spectators to travel sustainably, this partnership helps minimise the environmental impact of the event while helping people to travel more actively.”
