Winner of more than 20 prestigious international theatre awards (including the Carol Tambor Best of Edinburgh Award, The Scotsman Fringe First Award and the Bank of Scotland Herald Angel Award), amassing over 30 five-star reviews and a breathless supply of superlatives, this sensational adaptation of the August Strindberg classic Miss Julie, stars Bongile Mantsai, Hilda Cronje, Zoleka Helesi and Tandiwe NoFirst Lungisa.

Music composition is by Daniel and Matthew Pencer, set and lighting design by Patrick Curtis and costume design is by Birrie le Roux.

In the smouldering kitchen of a remote South African farmhouse, 23 years after apartheid, a single night of brutality and tenderness unfolds between a black farm labourer and his white master’s daughter. The visceral struggles of contemporary South Africa are laid bare as the couple’s deadly attraction spirals out of control and they battle over power, sexuality, memory, mothers and land.

Mies Julie is one of six award-winning South African productions, Karoo Moose – No Fathers, The Inconvenience of Wings, The Fall, Tshepang and Tobacco, showing at the Assembly Festival, Edinburgh in August.
