Forty years after Duran Duran played their first ever notes as a band, New York indie rocker Sam Shaber is proud to present her debut solo show at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe.

In the beginning, there was Duran Duran. And she saw that it was good.

Sam discovered Duran Duran on MTV at age 10, and became obsessed instantly. In that moment, she knew her whole life would be about rock stardom. But life doesn’t always turn out the way you planned. Now, at age 44, Shaber has released twelve albums and toured over 200,000 miles as an independent musician – and lost a lot of people along the way. Life, Death & Duran Duran is the true story of how a determined, crazy fangirl becomes a determined, passionate adult. And why, even after all the shock and loss, she is still dancing on the sand. Featuring 6 original songs.

Singer-songwriter-indie rocker Sam Shaber grew up in New York City where she began playing live in 1996. She’s released 12 independent albums, initially as a solo folkie, and more recently fully plugged-in with her band The Happy Problem. She’s also written, produced and performed with Brazilian rock-reggae band The Good People of Planet Earth, Brooklyn dance-rock trio The Bashful, and New Jersey hip-hop group The Org. Shaber is also a music journalist and essayist, with features published in Musician Magazine, Performing Songwriter, and The Southeast Review.
