Injury-hit Berwick Bandits had fought hard at fellow-strugglers Scunthorpe Scorpions to end up only nine down in one of their best away performances of the year.

The Borders outfit lost 49-40 but team manager Gary Havelock said: “This proves one thing, we can do this and it all seemed go well for us.

“If this is a sign of things to come then the second-half of the season could be a happier time for everyone except our opponents.”

Meanwhile, Glasgow Tigers bosses have urged their riders to put the Peterborough Panthers defeat behind them.

The SGB Championship-chasing side host Sheffield Tigers on Saturday and Glasgow’s team manager, Stewart Dickson, said they must get back on track.

Sunday’s defeat ended Glasgow’s run of taking points from every match this season.

Tigers now have 36 points from 15 matches and are third in the ten-strong table.

Ipswich Witches are second with 36 points from 18 matches and Edinburgh Monarchs lead by five points but have raced in 19 fixtures.

Tigers won only four heats at Peterborough as they struggled to recover from an opening race 5-1, eventually going down 55-37.

The club’s previously in-form heat-leader trio of Richard Lawson, Aaron Summers and Richie Worrall scored only 16 between them with Summers collecting eight.
