Captain Aaron Summers powered to the line last night (FRI) to earn a 45-45 draw for Glasgow Tigers against his former paymasters.

Sam Masters, Monarchs’ skipper, split Tigers pair with Richie Worrall third as Glasgow came from 43-41 behind after the second last race.

Summers said: “We came to get a win but we worked hard for a draw and we go home with two points.”

It was a tense affair throughout with Monarchs twice edging a two-point lead and being pegged back.

Six straight 3-3 scorelines saw the arch rivals level at 33-33 after Heat 11.
Monarchs gained a two-point advantage in the next race after Richard Lawson locked up on the second bend in the first lap.

This allowed Erik Riss to take the win and his brother Mark to come home second after the Germans were split by Tigers’ Tom Perry.

Monarchs in-form rider Ricky Wells was disqualified in the next race after he fell and the race was stopped.

This meant Monarchs faced the re-run with only one rider, skipper Sam Masters, and Tigers failed to take advantage. Masters powered to the line.

Ex-Monarchs racer Dan Bewley won the following race with Edinburgh pair Mark Riss and Max Clegg taking the minor places to leave the score on a knife edge at 43-41 in favour of the home side.
