World Championships, Division One, Group B: Great Britain 4, Croatia 2 (in Belfast)

Brendan Brooks became Great Britain’s 400th cap when he iced in the national side’s 4-2 win over Croatia in their World Championship, Division One, Group B, clash in Belfast.

The Canadian-born, Fife Flyers star, who has also played for Braehead Clan, was one of three debutants along with Sir Rod Stewart’s son, Liam, who plays for Coventry Blaze, and Sam Duggan who ices for a Swedish club.

Croatia made the home side work hard and they were level going into the final session after Croatia equalised in the second period but Britain won the period 3-1 to take the points.

Nottingham Panthers forward Robert Dowd, Russell Cowley (Coventry Blaze), Evan Mosey (Rockford Ice Dogs, USA) and David Clarke (Nottingham Panthers) scored for Britain.

Scottish-born coach Peter Russell must now prepare his squad to face Estonia in the second game on Monday night.
