Police are appealing for information following a racial assault in a local shop in Jackson Place, Eliburn which took place between 8:30pm and 9pm on Saturday evening.

A man was working in the shop when two youths aged between 14 and 16-years-old entered and began to shout racist remarks at him.

The man attempted to usher the youths from the shop and on doing so was punched in the chest by one of them.

One of the suspects is described as a white male, 14-16 years old wearing a black hooded top and a dark wooly hat.

Police Constable John McLean from the Livingston Police Station Community Team said: “Tackling hate crime is a key priority of Police Scotland. Such incidents can have a huge impact on our communities and will not be tolerated.

Anyone who may have seen suspicious behaviour in the area near to the shop between these times is asked to get in touch as soon as possible.”
