Oxgangs PS was one of the 17 schools in Edinburgh affected by building design flaws which led to their closure.

Oxgangs Primary School and their Nursery class were inspected by Education Scotland in November last year, when they gathered evidence on the way the school delivers education to its pupils. This appears to be the first inspection for over ten years according to the Education Scotland website.

The organisation which is responsible for supporting quality and improvement in Scottish education, found strengths in the way the school is developing positive relationships across the whole school community through an initiative called Rights Respecting School.

The inspectors praised the staff for their teamwork in ensuring that the children learn through play at the early stage of Curriculum for Excellence, but they went on to hand out real praise for the way the school had dealt with significant disruption after the school closure last year.

Education Scotland also offer a few pointers to areas where improvement can be made. They suggest that children need to understand better their roles as learners, and the school is encouraged to improve the consistency of teaching and learning across the school. They are also asked to ensure that the health and wellbeing part of the curriculum is well-delivered.

Overall the evaluations range from Satisfactory to Very Good and Education Scotland do not plan any more visits in the near future.
