Community councils are elected bodies set up with volunteer members who are either nominated or elected every five years. There are around 1200 in Scotland and 43 in Edinburgh.
One of the most influential spheres of their work relates to local planning matters. They are always notified of any planning applications in their local area as an affected body and have a right to say what they think about the applications.
Below you will find an alphabetical list of the community councils in Edinburgh after the October 2016 elections with as many of their up to date details as we can find for the newly appointed bodies. (It is not complete! so if you are involved with any of the community councils then please drop us a line editor@theedinburghreporter.co.uk)

Balerno Community Council meets usually on the first Thursday of the month at 7.30pm in Balerno High School. The next meeting is 3 November 2016.
Colinton Community Council will meet at 7:30pm on 8 November 2016 at Colinton Bowling Club.
Corstorphine Community Council hold their meetings at The Dower House, St. Margaret`s Park, Corstorphine High Street, every third Wednesday of the month (except July), 7.30 – 9.30 pm. Next meeting 19 October 2016.
Craigentinny/Meadowbank Community Council do not have a website and the email address we had is out of date. Information will be added here when found.
Craigleith/Blackhall Community Council will meet on 14 November 2016 at 7.30pm in the Dining Hall of Stewart’s Melville College accessed via Ravelston Terrace.
Craiglockhart Community Council will hold their next meeting on 29 November 2016 at 7pm in Craiglockhart Parish Church or Craiglockhart Campus at Napier University. Click here for their Facebook page.
Craigmillar Community Council failed to attract enough new members in October 2016
Cramond and Barnton Community Council will hold their next meeting on 20 October 2016 in the Millennium Room, Cramond Kirk Hall, Glebe Road, Cramond.
Drumbrae Community Council
Drylaw/Telford Community Council – the website still exists but it says closed due to lack of interest.
Fairmilehead Community Council will hold their next meeting on 1 November 2016 at 7pm in Fairmilehead Parish Church, Frogston Road West.
Firrhill Community Council will hold their next meeting in the board room of the Oxgangs Care Offices in Firrhill Neuk, next to the Lochan. on 24 October 2016 at 7.00pm
Gilmerton/Inch Community Council
Gorgie/Dalry Community Council
Grange/Prestonfield Community Council meet on 19 October 2016 at 7:00pm in Cameron House Community Education Centre 34 Prestonfield Avenue EH16 5EU
Granton & District Community Council website appears out of date
Hutchison Chesser Community Council hold their meetings  on the second Monday of every month, at 7.30pm in the Hutchison-Chesser Community Centre on Hutchison Avenue, and the next meeting will be on 10 October at 7.30pm
Juniper Green Community Council on the fourth Wednesday of the month. None in July.  All meetings start at 7:00pm and conclude at 9:00pm, usually in the committee room of Juniper Green Village Hall.
Kirkliston Community Council have a Facebook page here. Meetings are held on the last Tuesday of every month, at 7:00pm at the Library on Station Road.
Leith /Harbour and Newhaven Community Council  will next meet on 25 October 2016 at 7:00pm in the Shore Room at Leith Community Centre.
Leith Central Community Council after a bit of confusion over the number of nominees there is now a full complement of community councillors and the next meeting is likely to be held on 21 November 2016 at 7:00pm in the Nelson Room in McDonald Road Library.
Leith Links Community Council is not yet fully constituted with members as a vote will take place in October since there were more nominations than places available. There will be a public meeting on 31 October 2016. They have a Facebook page here.
Liberton and District Community Council The Council meets at 7 pm on the last Monday of each month except July and December. The next meeting will be on Monday 31st October at 7.00pm at Liberton Kirk Hall. Follow them on Twitter here.
Longstone Community Council will meet on 10 October 2016 at 7:30pm in Longstone Primary School Redhall Grove.
Marchmont and Sciennes Community Council will meet on 26 October 2016 in St Catherine’s Argyle Church Hall on Grange Road at 7.30pm.
Merchiston Community Council hold their meetings on the third Tuesday of each month (not including April, July, August and December) at 19:00 in the Merchiston Tennis and Bowling Club on Polwarth Terrace. Their website is out of date.
Morningside Community Council will meet on Wednesday 19th October 2016 at 7.30pm at The Open Door, 420 Morningside Road
Muirhouse/Salvesen Community Council failed to attract enough new members in October 2016.
Murrayfield Community Council will hold a meeting on 29 November 2016 at Murryafield Parish Church Centre, 2b Ormidale Terrace, Edinburgh.
New Town and Broughton Community Council will meetMonday 14th November 2016 at 7.30pm, at the Drummond Room, Broughton St Mary’s Church, Bellevue Crescent.
Northfield and Willowbrae Community Council meet at Northfield Community Centre at 7:00pm on 3 November 2016.
Old Town Community Council did not receive enough nominations to continue and has therefore ceased.
Portobello Community Council has a Facebook page here. They will meet in November 2016 and will post details of the meeting there.
Queensferry and District Community Council has a Facebook page here. The QDCC October business meeting is scheduled for Monday 24th October 2016 and will be held in the Burgh Chambers, 53a High Street between  7.30 and 9.30pm.
Ratho & District Community Council A meeting will be held on 21 November 2016 at 7.15pm in Ratho Community Centre.
Sighthill Broomhouse and Parkhead Community Council website out of date
Silverknowes Community Council
Southside Community Council will next meet on 14 November 2016 at CCE Kings Hall, 41A South Clerk Street, EH8 9NZ Regular business meetings of the Community Council are held in the Gray Room at the Nelson Hall, Spittalfield Crescent (where Bernard Terrace meets St Leonards St), on the second Monday of the month.
Stenhouse, Saughton Mains and Whitson Community Council meets next on 21 November 2016. The meeting starts at 7pm at the Carrickvale Centre.
Stockbridge/Inverleith Community Council will meet on 26 October at 7.30pm at Stockbridge Church. Stockbridge & Inverleith Community Council generally meet the third Wednesday of the month at 7.00pm at Stockbridge Church, Saxe Coburg Street.
Tollcross Community Council All meetings are open to the general public, and are held on the LAST Wednesday of each month (except July & December), in the Tollcross Community Centre 7.00 – 9.00pm.
Trinity Community Council has a Facebook page here which is more up to date than their website. Their meetings appear to be held on the second Monday of each month at 7.00pm in Wardie Parish Church, Primrose Bank Road.
West End Community Council will next meet on 1 November 2016 The meeting will start at 7.30pm and take place at Ashfield, 61 Melville Street, Edinburgh EH3 7HL.
West Pilton/West Granton Community Council
Wester Hailes Community Council WHCC meetings are held every first Wednesday of the month in the Wester Hailes Library, 6pm-8pm.
