LeithLATE may be over for this year, but this morning we saw for ourselves the work of elph who has created a mural on a gable end on Leith Walk as part of the ongoing series called The Mural Projects.

elph is a graffiti artist who started out tagging bus stops in his native Drylaw, but has since gone on to create bigger murals under bridges and on building sites, to a more ‘respectable’ role as street artist. He has now exhibited his art in New York, Berlin and London alongside the likes of Banksy and Adam Neate.

The figure is loosely based on his liking of Japanese comics and fashion illustrations, and it certainly is a colourful attraction at the foot of Leith Walk.

He was commissioned by LeithLATE to create the colourful mural on the side of the Lovella Beauty Salon which he has done over the course of this week.

Morvern Cunningham the producer of LeithLATE explained what is happening just next week. She said: “We had the festival in June and that was really successful, we are really happy with how that went. We now have just a little bit of activity before the end of the year. We are going to be continuing our exchange with Deptford X . We are taking an artist from LeithLATE16  to London next week to install her work as part of that festival as well. After that we will be planning for next year!”

More information about all the wonderful art and events that formed part of LeithLATE16 can be found here.
