Police are appealing for information following an attempted armed robbery at Paget convenience store in Restalrig Road which took place on Saturday around 3:50pm.
A man entered the shop carrying what is believed to be a hammer and approached the customer counter before ordering a male member of staff to hand over money.
The employee refused and a short altercation ensued before the suspect ran off empty handed. He was last seen on Blackie Road heading in the direction of Claremont Road.
Detectives from Edinburgh CID are now carrying out various lines of inquiry in an effort to trace the suspect as quickly as possible and are appealing for information that might help identify the attacker.
He is described as white, aged in his 30’s, around 6ft tall, unshaven, with a skinny build and has gaunt facial features. At the time of this incident he was wearing a blue baseball cap, blue tracksuit top and bottoms.
Detective Constable John Dunn of Gayfield CID said: “This was a frightening incident but fortunately no one was injured and the staff member did not surrender any of his possessions.
“However, we’re carrying out various lines of inquiry in relation to this matter as we progress with our investigation and anyone with relevant information should contact police immediately.
“I’d also be interested to hear from anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area of Restalrig Road on Saturday afternoon or who has information relevant to this incident.”
