George Clooney is in town today, but then you already know that.

Mr Clooney is here to speak at the Scottish Business Awards this evening at the EICC where some prominent Edinburgh businesses are included on the 2015 shortlist.

Celtic Renewables is there as emerging business of the year, Gordon Dewar CEO of Edinburgh Airport is shortlisted for CEO of the year, Skyscanner and Brewdog are fighting it out in the category of  Employer of the year and the ESPC are entered in the category of Business Innovation of the Year.

So if you need a hair appointment you are probably out of luck today as everyone who is anyone gets themselves ready for the evening ahead.

Do tweet us some photos if you are going!

Harold Haas is the Chair of Mobile Communications at the University of Edinburgh where he is the Chief Scientific Officer of pureLiFi Ltd and he was asked to give a Ted Talk about the work of the spin out company which is also shortlisted at the Scottish Business Awards this evening.

The company website explains: “Li-Fi technology will in future enable faster, more reliable internet connections, even when the demand for data usage has outgrown the available supply from existing technologies such as 4G, LTE and Wi-Fi. It will not replace these technologies, but will work seamlessly alongside them.”

Here he is delivering what is actually his second talk in four years:

At Museum Late: Victorian Sensation on Friday 13 November 2015 (yes there may be tickets left and there may not!) you will be entertained by the gin parlour, magic, silent disco and grown-up crafts as well as sing-a-longs to the piano and a host of action on the main stage.

We think that all the tickets for speed dating have gone but it is little wonder as there were only 10 male and 10 female tickets available…… so you will have to wait till next time…
