Hibs’ midfielder Dylan McGeouch was delighted to pick up the three points against Livingston on Tuesday night but acknowledged that the team had not played as well as they have been during their winning run.

McGeouch, who signed for Hibs from Celtic during the summer started the game on the bench but replaced Martin Boyle just as James Keatings had put the Easter Road side in front against a stuffy Livingston side.

His presence made an immediate impact and he helped wrap the game up midway through the second half before helping to retain the lead as the Lions fought back near the end.

Speaking immediately after the game he said: “Sometimes it feels even better when you are not playing well but still winning.

“We are digging out results when we need them and last year we might have dropped a few points here and there when we weren’t playing well.

“It was quite damp out there and the pitch was really digging up so it was a good win to put away and three points claimed. It showed great character to hold on, dig in and win the three points.

“Obviously, we want to go out and entertain in every game but it’s never going to be like that and the match against Livi was one of those occasions.

“There are games in this current run in which we’re going out and passing teams off the park and scoring three or four goals. On other occasions, such as Livi, we have to fight to secure three points and that’s the making of a good team, winning when you’re not playing well.

“I wouldn’t even say it’s about bottle, it’s about ticking off the games one by one. There’s quality and depth in our squad, even on the bench, and people are ready to step in and keep the momentum going.

“We went on a great run last year and it looks as if we’re doing that again and hopefully we can keep it going.”
