Hearts today signed experienced midfield player Danny Swanson. The 28-year-old former Dundee United and St. Johnstone player was without a club, having left Coventry City by mutual consent last week – hence Hearts being able to sign him until the end of this season.

Swanson, who was part of Dundee United’s Scottish Cup winning team of 2010, has also played for Berwick Rangers and, south of the border, Peterborough and Coventry City.

Hearts Head Coach Robbie Neilson told the official Hearts website: “Danny will add value to the squad. He’s a really experienced player. He’s played in Scotland for a long time then had five years down in England playing at a really good level, as well as winning a Scottish Cup with Dundee United. He’s a winner and brings a lot of ability to the squad.

“He’s impressed in training but I also knew him from Dundee United, when I was a player there. I know what he brings to the team. I know he’s got great technique and ability and he’ll be a good addition to the squad.

“He predominantly plays in a more central area of the pitch now. He gives great through balls and passes in that area, which is where we’re a little bit light at the moment so it’s great to get him in.”

Swanson was thrilled to sign a short-term deal but made it clear he intends to be in Gorgie beyond the summer. “I’m delighted to be here” he told the official Hearts website. “It’s been a hard few days at training but all worthwhile. I don’t think I’ve been this happy since I signed for Dundee United, this is how excited I am to be here. I’m looking forward to it.

“I hope to win myself a longer deal. This is kind of a trial thing for me. The manager’s been honest enough and said that he’d take me to the end of the season and see what happens.

“I’ve just got to make things happen. I’ve never been more determined to make something happen in my whole career. I’m 28 now, I’ve got a family and it’s all for them. I’m driven to be a success here”

Subject to international clearance, Swanson will travel with the Hearts squad to the Highlands for Friday evening’s Ladbrokes Premiership clash with Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
