Morrisons Moredun - Ben Nevis 1

The staff at the Moredun branch of Morrisons took on a ‘Ben Nevis at Sunrise’ Challenge earlier this month to raise funds for Sue Ryder.

The weather was foggy but the team consisting of Gordon Strong, John Crawford, John Venters, Aston Hadden, Jessica Thomson, Imran Zaman, Sarah Rose, Owen Johnstone, Benjamin Tomes and Gwen Hunt all climbed the UK’s highest peak to raise money for the supermarket’s national charity partner.

Despite the poor weather conditions, they managed to reach the summit and hope to raise over £1,500 towards the Morrisons Raise a Smile partnership, which funds the expansion of Sue Ryder’s end of life care services across the UK.

The ‘Ben Nevis at Sunrise’ challenge was organised following the success of another Ben Nevis climb held in May, which was completed by the store’s Community Champion Sandie Bell and Dry Cleaning colleague Christine Hunter. They raised £912 by taking on the challenge alongside Morrisons colleagues from across England and Wales.

Sue Ryder also held a ‘Snowdon at Sunrise’ event for Morrisons colleagues last year, which raised over £12,000 towards the Morrisons Raise a Smile partnership with Sue Ryder.

Gordon Strong, one of the managers at the store on Gilmerton Road, said: “We were told to prepare for bad weather and it was a tough climb; but still a great experience. The whole team is really proud of what we achieved and we’re delighted to have raised so much towards our national charity partnership with Sue Ryder.”

Money raised through the Morrisons Raise a Smile partnership with Sue Ryder is funding new community healthcare services, family support teams and Sue Ryder’s Online Community and Support (www.sueryder.org/support), providing the best possible care to people at the end of their lives and support for their families.

For more information or to get involved, call the dedicated partnership hotline on 0800 949 6000 or email morrisons@sueryder.org. Alternatively, show your support today by texting ‘SMILE’ to 70123 to donate £3, or buy a scratchcard from the kiosk at Morrisons Moredun. You’ll be helping people at the end of their lives, and supporting their families.
