Alan Stubbs

Hibs’ Head Coach Alan Stubbs has praised his players for their ‘determined’ performance in last night victory over Rangers at Ibrox.

The 2-0 win means that Hibs have leapfrogged Rangers into second place in the Championship although the Glasgow side have three games in hand.

Amazingly Stubbs fielded eleven players who have scored this season and ‘statos’ are scouring the record books to see if this has ever happened before.

This was Hibs’ third win over Rangers this season and the clubs could face each other three more times as both seem certain to make the play off.

Hibs are also in the quarter finals of the Scottish Cup with a home draw against Spartans or Berwick Rangers and a trip to Hampden for a semi-final looks likely.

After the game Stubbs told Hibs’ TV: “It was a determined performance and, for me, that’s every bit as satisfying as a free flowing performance.

“We’re not just going to be allowed to play the way we want to all the time. Rangers knocked us off our stride – they harried, pressed and tried to stop us playing.

“They succeeded at times, but full credit to our players for coming out on top. We scored one on the break and then you find your left wing-back in the box inside the last 10 minutes to pop up with a goal.

“It was a great finish and it gave us a bit of respite at the time. The lads had defended heroically and put their bodies on the line.

“Every time the ball came into the box there was a white jersey to deal with it.

“They are a great bunch of lads and they want the season to be a success.

“If they keep on putting in performances like that and like the displays we’ve seen over the past few months then we’ll give ourselves a chance to go up come the end of the season and challenge for silverware.”
