The Hibernian Community Foundation and Coerver® Coaching Scotland have  joined forces to form a new partnership, supporting football development in Edinburgh, East Lothian, Midlothian and the Scottish Borders.

To launch the partnership 102 local coaches at grassroots level were invited to attend an opening event delivered by Joe Jones, Coerver® Scotland Director and staged at the Training Centre in Ormiston.

Coerver® Scotland is a renowned coaching method currently being followed and implemented by many of the world’s leading federations and professional clubs.

Both Jones and Community Foundation’s Head of Community Coaching Tom Elliott led the first clinic giving the participating coaches an insight into the Coerver® method.  Jones focused on the Coerver® approach to player development which includes the best practice on the importance for coaches to develop skilful, confident, creative players and teams.

The clinic was originally capped at 50 coaches, but the interest was so high that the decision was made that everyone, who had applied got the chance to be part of this fantastic experience.

Coerver® Coaching Scotland Director Joe Jones said: “We are really pleased to be working with Hibernian FC on football development projects.

“We believe that South East Scotland has some outstanding young players and coaches, through this partnership we are able to offer player and coach development opportunities to support grassroots teams and clubs who are at the very heart of the future of our game. We plan to further enhance Coerver® Coaching’s commitment to supporting clubs across the country.

“Our new projects will provide open access to players who are keen to have more training, supplementing the great work being done by clubs, with focus on developing skilful, confident, creative players who can play as part of a team. Our training will be serious fun, challenging and aim to improve Skill, Speed, Stamina, Spirit and game Sense.

“We will also provide support for coaches through CPD workshops and shadowing opportunities.”

Tom Elliott said: “I’ve worked closely with Coerver® Scotland and Joe for 14 years now and its philosophy is renowned world-wide by top coaches and l have always believed in the Coerver® methodology.  Local young players will have the chance of registering for monthly coaching clinics, starting in March, held here at the Hibernian Training Centre.”

The first Player Development programme ‘PLAY LIKE THE STARS’ kicks off on 1 March 2015.
