Celebrating its 5TH year with new categories and incredible guests

 13–19 October @  Filmhouse, Edinburgh

Scotland Loves Animation are excited to announce the return of the immensely successful Scotland Loves Anime film festival. Entering into a momentous fifth year, the festival welcomes yet more premieres, talks and workshops – including its first ever focus on one specific animation studio.

Highlights will include a stellar line-up of some of the freshest anime films broken down into some amazing categories (Sci-fi, Games, BONES and hot new anime); the Judge’s Award category in which industry guests select the best of the festival; an Education Day hosted by Edinburgh College of Art with industry experts discussing all aspects of anime; and cult film screenings of Ghost on the Shell (which has been restored in HD) and Wings of Honneamise.

The festival will also be attended by a selection of high profile guests from the field of anime in the UK, Europe and beyond over both weekends. The first guest to be announced is Mizuho Nishikubo, director of Giovanni’s Island, and long time collaborator with Mamoru Oshii on projects like Ghost in the Shell. He will present the Scottish premiere of Giovanni’s Island in Glasgow and will be hosting a question and answer session after the screening.

Minami_PhotoAs part of the Studio BONES focus, SLA are extremely honoured and proud to confirm the attendance of Masahiko Minami – a producer often hailed as one of the top luminaries of his generation. His projects include film and TV work such as Cowboy Bebop, Cowboy Bebop the Movie, Sword of the Stranger, Wolf’s Rain, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and most recently Space Dandy. He will present a special screening of two episodes of Space Dandy, then host a long question and answer session after the screening to chat about his incredible studio. SLA are also proud to announce a once in a lifetime opportunity for students as Masahiko Minami will present a lecture as part of the Education day on Friday 17th of October. Long time festival supporter, Jonathan Clements will also return to present the films at both festivals and will host all talks sessions.

Scotland Loves Anime will be screening a range of films at the same time they air in Japan. As always, this will be the only chance to see many of these films theatrically in the next year.
