Police in Edinburgh are appealing for information following a robbery within a house in Crewe Road South, where the occupants were assaulted and a four-figure sum of money was stolen.

The incident happened around just before 2am when the occupants were awoken by four men who were wearing dark clothing and masks. The occupants were held within the house and the males stole a quantity of cash and jewellery.

Police are now appealing for anyone who may have heard or seen anything suspicious, to get in touch with police.

Police are carrying out enquiries in the Crewe Road South area and there is an increase in high-visibility patrols to offer reassurance to the community following this incident.

Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Houston said: “The occupants of the house were awoken in the night to four masked intruders, who threatened them with a weapon and demanded cash.

“This was obviously a terrifying experience for them, and we are looking for any information to help us trace those responsible.

I would be particularly keen to trace the drivers or occupants of any vehicles that were within the area at the time of the incident.

“We don’t have a clear description of the men as they were wearing masks, but they were all wearing dark clothing, and we are working to establish further details. Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
