Police are appealing for witnesses following a report that a delivery driver was assaulted and had his van stolen in the south of the city yesterday afternoon.

Enquiries are underway after a suspect drove a red Parcel Force Volkswagon Crafter vehicle away from Spottiswoode Street at around 12.40pm. It is alleged that he first assaulted the 48-year-old driver and stole the keys to his van.

The van, which was found a short distance away in Warrender Park Road, was undamaged and none of its contents was stolen. The delivery driver was unhurt but shaken by the incident.

The suspect is described as a white male, in his late twenties, well-built, and with dark stubble and short hair. He was wearing jeans, a light-coloured t-shirt and a dark-coloured jacket.

Detective Constable Elaine McKenna said: “Thankfully no one was hurt during this incident but a van was stolen and we are obviously very keen to identify the person responsible as soon as possible.

“Anyone who saw the red Parcel Force van in or around Spottiswoode Street around lunchtime on Thursday is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101 or, alternatively, phone the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
