Police Scotland has welcomed the jail sentence given to a man who subjected his victim to a violent domestic assault.

At the High Court in Edinburgh on Monday, Mark Ronald Goodfellow was sentenced to spend 33 months in prison following the attack which happened in the Niddrie area of the city on 14th September 2013.

Detective Inspector Morag Bruce from the Public Protection Unit said: “Tackling domestic abuse robustly is a key priority for Police Scotland.”

“The sentence handed out to Mark Goodfellow today reflects the commitment of the Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit, Police Scotland and the Crown Office in removing violent domestic offenders from our communities.”

“I would like to reassure the public that we treat all reports of domestic abuse with the utmost seriousness and professionalism and would urge victims of these offences to report their abuse to police.”
