A report by the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner on an Edinburgh man who had been reported missing and was found dead just three days before Police Scotland came into existence, has criticised police for the way they handled the matter.

The man was known to be a vulnerable person and the Commissioner has made recommendations to Police Scotland that they investigate the way this individual case was handled as well as the procedures for any future cases.

Another missing person case later in the year has also resulted in criticism from the Commissioner when another vulnerable person aged 39 was seriously injured after a fall from his 7th floor flat in Leith. The report on that case also recommends investigation into procedures for missing person enquiries.
