2014 Homecoming Hogmanay Firework Thistles at Edinburgh's Hogmanay Torchlight Procession c Grant Ritchie Real Edinburgh

Tonight, the world famous Street Party will kick off with the Homecoming Hogmanay Fireworks from Calton Hill at 20:14 followed by countdown fireworks at 9.00pm and 10.00pm. A full Homecoming Hogmanay display at 11.00pm will signal one hour to go till the climax of the evening, the Midnight Fireworks.

The spectacular display involves over 2,300 cues, triggering over 16,000 shots from 52 locations spread around Edinburgh Castle, Princes Street Gardens and Calton Hill. Music accompanying the fireworks will be from Scottish artists who are either performing at this year’s Edinburgh’s Hogmanay or have been part of the party in the past 21 years. Calvin Harris, The Proclaimers, Chvrches and Treacherous Orchestra tracks will all be featured.

Councillor Gavin Barrie said:-“Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations have become synonymous with New Year and our spectacular fireworks display above the Castle will be seen by over a billion people across the globe. It’s great to hear the weather outlook has improved and I’m sure the remaining tickets for the Street Party will be snapped up quickly. Where better to see in 2014 than from the heart of Scotland’s great capital city?”

Met Office Advisor, Graeme Forrester, said that it was looking likely that some rain this morning will clear from Edinburgh during the afternoon and the evening should be mostly dry. Winds will become lighter too later in the day so the evening should be largely fine for the Street Party. “Wrap up well though”, he said, “It will feel pretty cold. Remember, it is December and it is Scotland!”

Revellers can purchase tickets for the world famous Street Party in one of three ways: by calling Edinburgh’s Hogmanay Box Office on 0844 573 8455; online at www.edinburghshogmanay.com; or by calling into the Hogmanay Box Office at The Fringe Office, 180 High Street, Edinburgh. All tickets now need to be collected from the Box Office which will be open until 9.00pm today. Revellers are advised to book and collect their tickets well before then to avoid the last minute queues.
