It might be a bit spooky to be in the art gallery after hours, but loads of other people could be there too…
This November, come in from the cold, have a hot toddy and settle in for the night in The Fruitmarket Gallery’s new exhibition, Louise Bourgeois: I Give Everything Away. This exhibition includes Bourgeois’s remarkable Insomnia Drawings, a suite of 220 drawings and writings created in the suspended state between sleeping and waking which between them contain all the major themes of Bourgeois’s work and reveal the close link between drawing and writing that is such a key part of her practice. As part of Book Week Scotland, we are inviting people to embrace insomnia and stay up all night in the exhibition with a range of activities to draw you closer to Bourgeois’s creative world.
We will start with a drawing workshop with Glasgow-based artist Kate Davis, then listen to readings from David Hopkins and Vahni Capildeo. A stripped back session from Edinburgh band eagleowl will lead us into the long watch of the night, during which there will be live writing by JL Williams, a 3am reading from Samantha Walton and a selection of film screenings. Refreshments will be available throughout, and comfy rest areas for anyone who needs forty winks.  We close with an early morning reading of JL Williams’s night-time production, coffee and croissants then send participants, bleary eyed onto their next adventure.
