CREATIVITY CALLING: PAOLOZZI PRIZE OPEN FOR NOMINATIONS
Art teachers in Edinburgh schools are invited to nominate pupils for the prestigious Paolozzi Prize for Art, which aims to find and celebrate aspiring young artists. Nominations are open to pupils in S4, S5 and S6 Art, and entries will be judged in three categories, taking into account creativity, attitude and dedication. There will be four winners: a winner in each of the three categories who will all receive £250 prize money, and an overall winner of the Paolozzi Prize for Art, who will be presented with £500.
Nominations will be judged by a panel of judges from the art community, with winners announced at an awards ceremony on Tuesday 16th April at the National Gallery of Scotland.
The judges include Scottish artist Richard Demarco, Dundee academic Michael Spens, St. Andrews University Paolozzi specialist Robin Spencer and Duncan Robertson, freelancer with National Gallery’s Education team, who trained in Paolozzi’s class in Munich.
Education Convener, Councillor Paul Godzik, said: “We’re lucky to live in a city where creativity thrives, and this prize is all about recognising and rewarding the next generation of creative talent.
“I wish all the nominees the best of luck and hope that, for some of them, this is the first step in a successful artistic career.”
The prize ceremony will form part of the soon-to-be launched Festival of Arts and Creative Learning, for Edinburgh’s children and young people.
