People living with sight loss in the Lothians, and their families and carers, are invited to an open evening tomorrow 19 September 2012 at the Edinburgh headquarters of RNIB Scotland to find out more about what help the charity can offer them.

The building, at 12-14 Hillside Crescent just off London Road, has a resource centre selling a wide range of aids and equipment that can help blind and partially sighted people with everyday tasks.  It also has a café open daily for snacks and hot lunches, meeting space for leisure and social clubs, and a welfare benefits advice service.

The charity’s staff and volunteers also provide social services such as rehabilitation and mobility and programmes helping newly diagnosed people come to terms with sight loss.

“If you have sight loss yourself, or know or care for someone who has, you would be very welcome to drop in and find out more about what we can do to help you.  We think you’ll be pleased and surprised at what we have to offer,”
said Nigel Harvey, the charity’s operations manager for Edinburgh and the Lothians.

* The open evening is from 5.30pm to 7.30pm on Wednesday, September 19 at RNIB Scotland, 12-14 Hillside Crescent, Edinburgh EH7 5EA.
