A date for your diary! We are running the second in our series of live events with Lothian and Borders Police next Tuesday 31 July 2012 at 1 – 2.30pm. Join us for lunch and find out what it takes to be a Chief Inspector in Pentlands. We will be speaking with Chief Inspector Richard Thomas. So if you live in this area and you have some questions then we would be glad to hear from you. Send them by email theedinburghreporter@gmail.com or by Twitter @EdinReporter or on the day by adding them as comments on the liveblog. What are your main concerns? Has your property been broken into? Have you been the victim of a crime? What do you really think the police should concentrate on in the area?

The Edinburgh Jazz Festival continues, and there were many many people in Princes Street on Sunday to see at least part of the Festival Carnival. This evening in Edinburgh Mr Salmond is playing at the Royal Over-seas League. (No, not that Mr Salmond this one is called Bill.) Unfortunately that is sold out but there are still other shows which have tickets available.Ā Ā Our photo today shows The Stooges who have already come and gone.

ScotRail has announced it will launch a half-hourly Sunday service on itsĀ Edinburgh-Glasgow via Falkirk route from 9 September.Ā A dozen more trains – and more than 2,250 extra seats – will be provided
every Sunday.

The expansion of services means there will be trains on the hour and halfĀ past the hour in both directions on Sundays for the first time in theĀ lineā€™s 170-years-old history.

Steve Montgomery, ScotRailā€™s managing director, said: ā€œThese improvementsĀ to Sunday services between Edinburgh and Glasgow are a real boost for railĀ users.Ā We recognise that peopleā€™s travelling patterns continue to change andĀ these new, more frequent services offer even more opportunities for peopleĀ to make the switch to rail, delivering environmental and economic benefitsĀ for Scotland.ā€

Transport Minister Keith Brown said: ā€œI am delighted to welcome ScotRailā€™sĀ announcement of a record number of Sunday services on this key route.Ā The shift from road to rail travel is hugely important in meeting the
ambitious climate change targets set by the Scottish Government.Ā But travelling by train is also a fantastic way for people to get aroundĀ and enjoy what Scotland, and her two biggest cities, has to offer.ā€

The additional trains will leave Edinburgh Waverley at 08.30, 09.30, 10.30,Ā 11.30, 21.30 and 22.30, and depart Glasgow Queen Street at 09.00, 10.00,Ā 11.00, 12.00, 22.00 and 23.00.

All the trains will call at Haymarket, Linlithgow, Falkirk High and CroyĀ stations.

Now Scotland on Sunday have made their Festival Picks here.Ā Ā We have not had time to do more than scan the various brochures as yet! So what we thought was perhaps you would like to help us. Could you tell us below what you are going to see at the Festival, the Fringe, the Jazz Festival or Fringe by the Sea? Or indeed any other festival you have found in the capital this summer. We would love to hear from you with your top tips for festival going. It is hard we know to be a serious festival goer while working, navigating the traffic and holding down a job so how do you choose your shows? Do tell!
