ASSEMBLY ROOMS EDINBURGH COMPLETION DATE IS CRYSTAL CLEAR

Following a £9.3m refurbishment, Edinburgh’s historic Assembly Rooms is on target for completion, ready for its grand unveiling on 19 July. Today sees the finishing touches being made to one of the most cherished features of the building, as the final crystals are hung on the iconic chandeliers in the Ballroom.

Convener of Culture and Leisure Richard Lewis

Councillor Richard Lewis, Culture and Leisure Convener for the City of Edinburgh Council, said:- “The Assembly Rooms restoration work is now approaching its final stages as we get ready to welcome back Edinburgh residents and visitors in their thousands from late July onwards.  These magnificent chandeliers are among the stand-out heritage features of this unique events venue and it’s great to see them resume pride of place in the Ballroom.”

The sensitive 18-month restoration of the Grade A-listed Assembly Rooms has preserved the building’s unique character and beauty while bringing its versatile events spaces up to 21st century specifications.  Eighteenth century architectural details have been retained and enhanced, while state-of-the-art sound systems, lighting rigs and seating configurations will ensure the Music Hall, Ballroom and Drawing Rooms East and West are the ideal venues for a wide range of events all year round.

Workmen were outside the venue this morning labouring to get the pavement both inside and outside the arches just perfect. The foyer area inside is being remodelled into something spacious and contemporary and there is to be a destination restaurant on site…Jamie’s Italian. The historic site will also resume its Festival duties in August when Salt n Sauce Promotions Limited will move in to present a programme of theatre, comedy and live music.
