Avid adventure fans are being urged to take part in the ultimate fundraising experience for Marie Curie Cancer Care in this year’s Cuba Trek, taking place in November.

In its inaugural year, the Cuba Trek will allow participants to explore the tranquil Sierra Del Escambray mountains of Cuba while raising £75,000 for Marie Curie.

During the challenge, which runs from 15-25 November, trekkers will experience the forests, gardens and waterfalls alongside the unique Cuban way of life, while taking in the revolutionary monuments which decorate this unique Caribbean island.

The funds raised will be used to support the Marie Curie Hospice, Edinburgh, enabling its nurses to provide expert care and the best possible quality of life, for people with terminal cancer and other illnesses and support for their families, completely free of charge.

Fiona Bushby, community fundraising manager for Marie Curie, said: “This challenge will be unforgettable for all involved, and will raise funds to enable Marie Curie to continue its invaluable work throughout the year. It’s the perfect opportunity for those with an adventurous spirit to support the charity, while enjoying the experience of a lifetime.”

Participants are required to pay a £250 registration fee and commit to a minimum of £2,950 in sponsorship.

An information evening is taking place from 6:30-8pm tonight Thursday 23 February at the Marie Curie Hospice, Frogston Road West, Edinburgh.

It costs £4.2 million a year, or more than £10,300 a day, to run the Edinburgh hospice.

Every year, the highly skilled and experienced staff care for more than 2,000 local patients, in the hospice and community, and provide support to their families.
