Local Edinburgh musical theatre group, Showcase, will be performing their trademark showstoppers and chart toppers to help celebrate a local cancer charity’s centenary year.

As well as songs from the musicals ‘Carousel’ and ‘Wicked’, this year the talents of Showcase will pay tribute to stars such as Sir Tom Jones, Pet Shop Boys, Primal Scream and U2.

All proceeds from this special show, aptly named ‘Movin’ on up’, will go towards their annual donation to Macmillan Cancer Support, who are celebrating their centenary this year.

Showcase member Andrew McGarry said: “Since 1991 we have performed an annual show in the Church Hill Theatre and during that time Macmillan Cancer Support have been our chosen charity and we have raised in excess of £200,000 for them.

“This year is a very special year for the charity and we want to do our bit to make this the biggest year ever for them!

“I can’t believe how much fun it can be to raise so much money for a good cause.”

Macmillan is delighted to have the support of this talented group and wants hundreds of people across Edinburgh to get involved and come along to enjoy the show and help support local people living with cancer.

Macmillan fundraising manager for Edinburgh, Pamela Williamson added: “The help we provide people with cancer is absolutely essential and we want to be able to give support to everyone who needs it.

“What better way to support a charity than to come along and enjoy an evening of musical entertainment, and at the same time helpMacmillan reach more people affected by cancer?”

The show is on at the Churchill Theatre in Morningside from tonight Tuesday 27 September until Saturday 1 October 2011.
