According to Virgin Money and Edinburgh International Festival there were 250,000 spectators in Edinburgh at various locations to watch the finale this evening. For 45 minutes the air was filled with music (if you had a radio) and the loud bangs of around 4 tonnes of explosives.

There was naturally a lot of red, and a gasp went out when the pyrotechnics became horizontal towards Princes Street rather than firing straight up in the air above the castle…..but we understood afterwards that it seemed to be on purpose! Some of the display had the appearance of Asian flowers, continuing that theme to the very end.

We had photographers at a couple of locations in the city and here are some of our best shots at capturing the fizzles and sparkles for you….
