Border Reivers Polo Club held their final tournament of the season last weekend with the Perrier-Jouet Cup. The qualifying rounds took place on the Saturday with the finals being held on the Sunday.

Edinburgh Polo club were there to try and win the Cup for the first time.

Qualifying, however didn’t go too well with the team going down to a well organised Perth team. Perth opened the scoring and were 3-1 up by the third chukka when Edinburgh scored a second goal and looked to be holding on well. However, another four goals from Perth before the end of the fourth and final chukka, saw Perth heading toward a well deserved final score of 7 goals to 3, and a place in the Final.

Sunday had Edinburgh in the 1st Supplementary final of the day against Randox (also from the Perth area). This match was a bit more closely contested, but again, Edinburgh failed to find the, metaphorical, back-of-the-net often enough, leaving Randox to carry off the spoils with a 5-and-a-half goals to 2 win.

The Perrier-Jouet Cup Final was the highlight match of the day between Perth and Chester Zebras, all the way from Cheshire. This was a very close and skilful match with the score staying even until the last few minutes of the final chukka, when two quick goals had the Zebras ahead 4-2 and winners of the Perrier-Jouet Cup for the second time.

The Edinburgh Reporter’s Man-of-the-Tournament had to go to commentator, Alick Campbell, who kept the crowd royally entertained the whole weekend with a continual stream of witty and well-informed commentaries, and was ably supported by Will Ramsay on the Sunday, when he took to the field.
