A unique programme of filmmaking events combining documentary, fiction, live performance and music is set to descend on Leith this August as part of the Leith on the Fringe at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

The event will take place at Out Of The Blue on Dalmeny Street in Leith and promises to be an opportunity for people to participate in the filmmaking and live event processes.

Ray Bird, Co-Director of the event said; ‘Live Film in Leith is a weekly programme of unique cinematic content, where documentary, fiction, live performance and music video merge seamlessly in a series of interactive screening events, dynamic workshops and open studios. Linked thematically the target is to use the mediums of film and music to engage with the audience’s imagination and challenge the modern mainstream cinema’.

Julien Pearly, Founder of Pundigrion, explains the main reason behind this new venture:
‘We want to bring a communal experience back to the people incorporating past traditions with new technology available. Hopefully this will be the start of an entirely new kind of local collaboration.’

A collaboration by both established and upcoming producers this festival aims to bring the industry’s finest talents and professionals together with the local arts to tell their stories through innovative filmmaking.

Partners include Distrify, who were a main sponsor of this year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF), Foundlight Productions – The Official Edinburgh Fringe video producers, innovative music download portal Ten Tracks, and an exciting new Internet TV network Nexi Internet Television.

Filmmakers involved in the shows as well as representatives of the various partner companies will also be running free-to-attend workshops and presentations every Sunday before the main event.

The ambitious line-up will present a weekly series of screenings that promise to take you on a journey through film, that will comprise of a mix of artistic, emotional and physical energy, brought literally to life by live soundtracks, narration, dance, and artwork. These will be performed alongside the films, which are a combination of styles and genres of varying lengths. Julian explains, ‘The energy that the live performance brings will bridge the gap between the audience and the screen and make them truly connect with the story.’

Ray said; ‘It’s really about showcasing the talent that we have locally, and through innovative presentation, making the audience really connect and respond with the films on a new level.’

Live Film in Leith can be seen at the ‘Out of the Blue Drill Hall’ in Leith, Sunday 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th of August at 21:15-22:30, with bookings made online or at the venue itself. Sunday Workshops are freely available to sign up for online or if there is space available on the day. Workshop attendees will be given a discount for the Event performances.
