Lothian and Borders Police are appealing for witnesses following a housebreaking in the Leith area of Edinburgh.

The incident happened around 2.15pm on Wednesday 3 August 2011 within a flat in Hopetoun Crescent.

A 47-year-old woman returned home to find someone had broken in and made off with various electrical items.

Police are now appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious to come forward.

Officers are particularly keen to speak to two people who were seen within the common stair around the time of the theft and ask that they contact police to assist with enquiries.

The first person is described as female, white with a slim build and blonde hair. She was wearing a reddish-coloured skirt.

She was in the company of a man who is only described as carrying a red rucksack.

A police spokesman said: ‘The victim was left shocked that her home and been broken into and deeply upset at the theft of her personal belongings.

‘Anyone who was in or around Hopetoun Crescent at around 2.15pm on Wednesday and remembers seeing any suspicious activity is asked to contact police immediately.
