Launching today in Edinburgh is Grease Monkey Cycles, the only bike maintenance service in Edinburgh to collect and return your bike fully serviced, repaired and cleaned till it sparkles.

Aimed at everyone from stressed out commuters and busy families to adrenalin fuelled speed freaks, GreaseMonkey offers a hassle free maintenance service for Edinburgh cyclists.

Grease Monkey is open seven days a week and picks up bikes in the evening from the customer’s home or during the day from the office.  They’ll even throw in a courtesy bike if the customer just can’t get around without two wheels.

The brainchild of bike freak David Wray, Grease Monkey Cycles is focused solely on maintenance and repair.  And with waiting lists of up to three weeks at other city bike workshops Wray believes he is meeting a gap in the market with a unique collect and return service.

The company operates from a purpose built workshop near the city centre and is the first service of its kind in Edinburgh, as founder David Wray explains:  “The idea is to make it as easy as possible for people to get their bikes serviced.

“Whether you’re a parent who can’t face the hassle of getting the kids’ bikes to the shop or a city worker who needs the bike to commute every day and can’t be without it, our service is ideal. Our customers love the convenience of us turning up at their office in a van, taking the bike away and then bringing it back running good as new!”

And as an added bonus every Grease Monkey service includes a free wash and polish.  Getting a bike back clean is a huge bonus in a city where many people live in flats and have little outside space to work in. Wray says: “To be honest, I just don’t want dirty bikes in my workshop!  So when they arrive they are given a careful wash before we start the service.  And afterwards we hand polish them so they shine like new!”

Passionate about professional bike maintenance and customer service the Grease Monkey mechanics are highly experienced and skilled. They offer three packages from a simple health check for safety to the full bhuna, a complete strip down and rebuild.  Uniquely, there is no labour charge on any new parts fitted and Grease Monkey will always give a full quote for any work needed before going forward.

With an estimated 150,000 cyclists today, Edinburgh is the only UK city to have signed up to the Charter of Brussels, setting a goal of 15 per cent of all journeys made on bike by 2020. Added to that, the desire to be green and the trend for healthy living are all helping to grow the market for cycling in Edinburgh.

  1. Hardly a unique service when there are other companies like 2 Wheel Support out there that have been doing this kinda thing for years!
