The General Manager of Edinburgh’s prestigious Balmoral Hotel has received the honour of becoming a member of the Master and Court of the Worshipful Company of Innholders.

Ivan Artolli was amongst 11 new members to receive this prestigious life-time membership at a ceremony held at the Innholders Hall in London this month.

The award of membership to the Master Innholders is given to an elite number of practising hotel general managers who demonstrate excellence in their innkeeping ability and continued support for improving standards within the industry. To achieve membership, candidates must have made a significant contribution to the work of industry organisations or training and education initiatives.

Born in Padua, Italy, Mr Artolli has spent his entire working life in the hotel industry, gaining valuable experience at all levels in various luxury properties in Germany, UK, France, Monaco and Italy before joining The Balmoral in 2007.

Mr Artolli is keen to encourage young people to choose hospitality as a career and is an active member of The Savoy Society Mentoring Scheme. Within Scotland he is involved in a number of industry training initiatives including Springboard and HIT Scotland and has lectured at Queen Margaret University with a view to recruit more young people into the industry. He is also a member of the British Hospitality Association Scotland Committee.

Commenting on the membership, Mr Artolli said: “It is an honour and privilege to become a Member of the Master and Court of the Worshipful Company of Innholders. I look forward to working with my peers to continue to drive the industry forward by improving standards and training.”

There are now 100 Master Innholders in the UK, all of whom are, or have been, prominent hoteliers, dedicated and committed to promoting best practice in the industry.  Master Innholders also aims to drive more charitable activities within the hotel industry.
