The council meeting yesterday was very long. So long, in fact, that The Reporter had to leave to attend another function just when the council was about to decide the fate of community newspapers, North Edinburgh News and The Chronicle.

Tom Allan stayed on to hear the verdict. He has an interest in knowing about their fate as he has been helping them with their websites and their use of other social media such as Twitter. He has reported on the decision by the Council to cancel the funding to these, and other voluntary organisations, by 100%. This is a pity, because if the Council just decided to cancel the publication of Outlook, which is commonly regarded as a council propaganda newspaper, then they could afford to fund these two community papers and probably another two as well. What now for the North Edinburgh News and The Chronicle? We hope to have more for you on this story later on.

The Council passed its budget and you can read the important points about it here.

Former Livingston MP, Jim Devine, has been convicted of two charges of false accounting and will be sentenced later, most probably to a term in prison, according to MSN.
