SCOTTISH PICTURES: WORKS ON PAPER 2011

4th March – 2nd April 2011

Featuring work by Sir David Wilkie, William Gillies, Charles Hodge Mackie, Anne Redpath and Alberto Morrocco and Hugh Grecian Williams who painted the above which is called View of Ochtertyre from the West. Ochtertyre is a Perthshire estate which was owned by the Murray family since the 13th century. And,  interestingly,  there is a view from the East too which you can try to match up! These two paintings are about 2 feet by 3 feet so you may have to clear some space on your walls first.

There are also some lovely tiny little Morocco drawings using everything from charcoal to pastel,  as well as large paintings such as the one above. Get along to Bourne and see some real, understandable art. The works feature many Scottish places such as a gouache on paper by Anne Redpath of Pittenweem, and a Cursiter watercolour of Raekirk Hoy in Orkney.

One of the most appealing (in The Reporter’s completely amateur view!) is the little watercolour and charcoal by Peploe which features the French gendarmes!

Situated on Dundas Street, the heart of Edinburgh’s Georgian New Town, Bourne Fine Art was established in 1978 by Patrick Bourne. The gallery specialises in paintings and sculpture from the 17th century to the present day.

We deal in an extensive and diverse range of artists, featuring important names from the key movements in Scottish art history. From early portraiture by artists such as Ramsay and Raeburn through to Scottish Impressionism, the Kirkcudbright School and significant Twentieth Century groups like the Colourists and Edinburgh School. Contemporary artists and sculptors are also represented, including John McLean, Charles Simpson, John Byrne and Emily Young.

Bourne Fine Art merged with The Fine Art Society of New Bond Street, London in 2004. Founded in 1876, The Fine Art Society is one of the world’s oldest art galleries, specialising in British art and design from the 17th to the 21st century. Patrick Bourne has joined The Fine Art Society as Managing Director and Emily Walsh runs the Edinburgh gallery with the assistance of Athina Athanasiadou and Charlotte Riordan.
