The National Library of Scotland welcomed a star guest through its doors recently when 2010 European Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie participated in a book signing event.

The Scottish golfing great has written the foreword for The Greatest Game, an entertaining new book written by Professor David Purdie and illustrated by Hugh Dodd, which takes a humorous look at our knowledge of the game and is a must for any golfer.

During his visit Colin Montgomerie also stopped by the library’s current golf exhibition, which has proved so popular it has been extended by an additional four months and will now run until March 2011.

The exhibition – which was also recently visited by Sir Sean Connery – showcases some of the most iconic items in the history of the game, with over 200 items on display including letters, diaries, photographs, account books, portraits, trophies, written club records and museum artefacts dating as far back as the 15th century.

Copies of The Greatest Game are available to buy from the shop at the National Library of Scotland on George IV Bridge, Edinburgh – a limited number of signed copies are on sale.
