After a quarter century of dedicated service to Dalkeith Thistle football club, Barclay Ewing has been honoured by having the King’s Park stand named in his honour.
John Landels, manager of the East of Scotland League club, says: “Barclay has done it all for our club … from putting out the training gear including balls, bibs and cones to serving as chairman to running the line.
“He is immensely respected by the players who were all on board with the decision to spring this surprise on him before our league game against Harthill.
“Barclay’s wife, Cathy, and daughter Laura, who runs our snack stall, gave their approval when I ran the idea past them around Christmas and somehow we managed to keep it a secret.”
A former firefighter, Barclay, 79, is known for wearing his heart on his sleeve when it comes to Dalkeith Thistle.
“Barclay is well known for having an opinion but it is all in a good cause and the players have long regarded him as one of the lads.
“It was also pleasing to make a long service presentation to him at a social function later in the day” said John.
