The former Dunbar police station is set to be turned into housing by a rental company who want to base their offices next to the homes.
SRS Scot Ltd, which have rental properties across East Lothian, Edinburgh and Midlothian, have applied for planning permission to convert Dunbar police station into four new houses with new management offices created in outbuildings at the back.
Police Scotland announced plans to close the police station along with stations at Prestonpans and North Berwick in East Lothian last year as part of a review of its estate.
Police chiefs said the stations, which were constructed before 1950, had been designed to meet the needs of policing at that time and no longer met the demands or requirements of modern policing.
Dunbar station went on the market in January this year for offers over £270,000.
The planning application outlines turning the main building into four separate houses – two four bedroom homes, a three bedroom home and a one bedroom property.
Each house will have allocated parking spaces and outdoor areas with 1.8m high timber fencing providing private gardens.
In their design statement the rental firm said they also plan to use outbuildings to create their own office suite on the site which could create up to three new jobs.
It said: “SRS wish to relocate their management office to East Lothian and believe that the outbuildings to the rear of the former police station can be suitably altered and extended to form an ideal office suite for them.
“The existing building will be re-roofed and have external cladding to match the proposed extension which will be accessed through a glazed link.”
The plans have been lodged on the council’s planning portal.
