The first half of the concert by the Los Angeles Philharmonic consisted of Beethoven’s 7th Symphony which is always a delight to hear.
This rendition at Usher Hall was quite precise under the splendid baton of Gustavo Dudamel.
The LA Phil is an excellent set of musicians, disciplined and proficient.
The second half was the Scottish Premiere of Gabriela Ortiz’s Revolución Diamantina (Glitter Revolution), a piece intended for ballet which was inspired by Mexican feminist protests against state violence towards women.
This work included the use of a small choir of women’s voices as an instrument in their own right and not simply as a singing highlight – most interesting and innovative.
Like most instruments, there were times when it was prominent and others very much in the background. This is an attractive piece well worth another hearing.
