A volunteer-run riding charity in west Edinburgh has been given a £750 boost to help care for its horses.
Ravelrig Riding for the Disabled Association, based in Balerno, supports people with additional support needs and disabilities through therapeutic horse riding and animal care.
The donation from road maintenance firm BEAR Scotland will go towards feed and hay for the charity’s horses.
Nikki Ramsay, stable manager at Ravelrig RDA, said: “It costs £10,000 a year to look after a horse, so this donation will be put towards hay and feed for the horses as that is one of our biggest expenditures.
“We thank BEAR Scotland immensely for this donation.
“We have over 100 volunteers who help us deliver fun, progressive and inclusive sessions to the many keen riders that come along.
“Watching each one of them grow in confidence around the horses and in themselves is a joy. It’s why we do what we do.”
The charity does not charge for lessons, instead operating on a pay-as-you-can basis.
Nikki added: “Donations like these are important to help keep us going.”
The funding was awarded through BEAR Scotland’s Regional Charity Initiative, which allows staff to nominate local causes in the communities where the company operates.
The scheme, set up in 2021, has so far donated £31,500 to charities across Scotland.
