Hundreds of children are being offered free surfing lessons at Lost Shore Surf Resort this summer.

Scottish Surfing has partnered with Europe’s largest inland surf resort near Edinburgh to offer beginner sessions for primary and secondary school pupils.

The initiative forms part of SportScotland’s Summer of Sport campaign, which aims to encourage young people to engage in physical activities during the school holidays ahead of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The sessions will take place on Sunday 26 July and Sunday 2 August for children aged seven and over. Participants will be provided with coaching, wetsuits, surfboards, and lunch following their time in the water.

The Catch the Wave programme is designed to introduce the sport in a controlled environment with consistent waves, removing the unpredictability of the open sea for beginners.

Mark Boyd, from Scottish Surfing, said: “Catch the Wave is all about giving young people the opportunity to experience surfing for the first time, regardless of their background or previous experience.

“We know that trying something new can be life-changing, helping build confidence, resilience and a lifelong love of being active.”

Lee Wood, Managing Director of Lost Shore Surf Resort, said: “One of the reasons Lost Shore was created was to give more people the opportunity to experience surfing, regardless of where they live or whether they’ve ever stepped into the sea.

“These sessions are exactly what that vision is about.”

Places for the initiative are limited and can be booked in advance through the Scottish Surfing website.
