Welcome to the World Cup Fan Zone at the Gyle

All the World Cup games which Scotland is playing in will be shown on the big screen in the fan zone at the Gyle Shopping Centre.

The venue was just opening on Saturday evening when our reporter visited. There is a bar and food to order from nearby Nando’s straight to the table. A DJ is there to keep everyone entertained between matches – first up the Qatar v Switzerland match at 8pm and then Brazil v Morocco at 11pm with Scotland playing Haiti at 2am UK time.

A spokesperson for organisers Sips said: “Expect the anthems. Expect the nerves. Expect absolute scenes when the goals go in. Let’s turn the FanZone into a sea of blue and get right behind the boys from the first whistle to the last. Bring the passion, bring the noise and let’s create an atmosphere worthy of the occasion.”

No under 18s permitted.

There are picnic tables of 6 and everyone is expected to share.

Tickets for Saturday night have sold out, but there are details of future events on 19 and 24 June on the Edinburgh Fanzone website.

There are portaloos on site, a First Aid tent and also security staff to keep everyone safe inside the zone.

The outdoors venue is close to the tram stop and convenient for bus services.
