Scottish soldiers will provide ceremonial support for the Opening Ceremony of Scottish Parliament on Saturday.
The 19th Regiment Royal Artillery and the 2nd Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland (2 SCOTS) will provide the Escort to the Crown from Edinburgh Castle to Parliament where the Crown will be placed in the chamber.
They will also line the route for the procession of Their Majesties The King and Queen from the Palace of Holyroodhouse to the Queensberry House entrance to Parliament.
As His Majesty The King is the constitutional head of state in Scotland, the Crown of Scotland – which the King never wears – is used to signify the symbolism of the visit, and is placed in the chamber of the Scottish Parliament whenever the Sovereign is invited to address the parliamentarians.
In the forecourt of the Palace of Holyroodhouse, Balaklava Company, the 5th Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland will have the honour of providing the large Guard of Honour for Their Majesties.
The musical accompaniment during the ceremony will be provided by 2 SCOTS Pipes, Drums and Bugles and the Band of The Royal Regiment of Scotland.
Throughout the day, F Coy, The Scots Guards will provide guard at the Palace of Holyroodhouse and also at Edinburgh Castle.
A spokesperson for The UK Army said that “involvement in high-profile ceremonial events such as this takes precision and planning, and an immense amount of discipline from the soldiers”.
