A former soldier who breached a sexual offences prevention order for the TENTH time has been jailed for more than a year.
Shaun Jewiss was placed under the strict conditions of the order after he committed several sickening attacks on women including rape and sexual assault.
The court order banned him from forming relationships with women without prior approval and prohibited him from installing and deleting apps on electronic devices he owned.
The 53-year-old pervert has continually flouted the order with the recent offending seeing him delete and reinstall the Tik Tok app on his mobile phone.
Jewiss – who was a signaller in the King’s Own Scottish Borderers – was also found to have been in contact with eight women on the Facebook messenger app when his device was inspected by police earlier this year.
Edinburgh Sheriff Court was told the latest breach was the tenth time Jewiss has been caught wilfully ignoring the order over the past eight years.
He appeared from custody at the court on Tuesday June 23 and pleaded guilty to breaching the terms of the SOPO between April last year and March this year.
Sheriff Graeme Watson said: “You have convictions for nine previous breaches of this Sexual Offences Prevention Order.
“You have been sentenced on five previous occasions for breaching it, including periods of custody.
“The order is in place to protect members of the public. It seems you are simply incapable of abiding by that order.”
The sheriff sentenced Jewiss to a 13 month jail term backdated to March 4 this year to mark the latest breach of the SOPO.
Fiscal depute Emma Laing told the court police officers carried out a routine search of his phone when they turned up at his home in Gorebridge, Midlothian, on March 3 this year.
The officers discovered Jewiss had deleted and reinstalled the Tik Tok app on his mobile phone and a further examination found chat logs with eight women on the Facebook messenger app.
Defence agent Calum Turner said there had been “nothing sinister” to the recent offending and the police had previously been aware Jewiss had the Tik Tok app on his phone.
Mr Turner said his client had deleted and reinstalled the app it due to showing an error on the screen and there had been “no suggestion” of him setting up a new profile.
The solicitor added the women the former soldier had been in contact with were all members of a local Facebook group he was involved with.
Mr Turner said Jewiss had served in the army between 1990 and 2013 and had served his country in Iraq, Afghanistan and on multiple tours of Northern Ireland.
The ex-serviceman was first jailed after he was found guilty of offences including rape and sexual assault against two women at the High Court in Livingston in 2014.
He breached the SOPO for the first time when he contacted a woman on Facebook in 2018 and was jailed for 10 months at Hamilton Sheriff Court the following year.
Jewiss was then found to have breached the order on three occasions – including meeting a disabled woman on the Badoo dating site – and sentenced to a further 10 months in custody in 2020.
He was jailed again for 12 months after striking up a friendship with a woman after meeting her online due to their shared love of Dr Who and also installing and deleting the Grinder app from his phone in 2022.
