Your reno is done. Looks amazing in photos. Then you walk in barefoot and feel grit on every surface. Run a finger along the windowsill. Grey.

Construction dust is different from regular dust. It’s finer, gets into everything, and a quick vacuum won’t touch it. Drywall powder in your air vents, grout haze on tile, adhesive residue on glass, sawdust in places you didn’t know existed. Your contractor swept up before leaving, sure. But “swept up” and “clean” are not the same thing. That’s exactly why post-renovation cleaning is a separate service, not just a quick final wipe-down.

Why you can’t just do this yourself

You can try. Some people do. But post-renovation cleaning takes three to four times longer than a normal clean, and the dust resettles. You wipe a counter, come back an hour later, new layer. Drywall dust is airborne, and until someone does a proper top-down clean, it keeps circulating.

A client in Etobicoke renovated her entire main floor. Spent two full weekends cleaning it herself before calling PureMaids. Her words: “I vacuumed the same room six times and it still wasn’t clean.” Turned out the HVAC had been running during construction. Dust was blowing back into every room through the vents.

Most people don’t think about that.

What a proper post-renovation clean actually covers

Not every cleaning service in Toronto takes on post-reno work. It’s harder and requires different products. Here’s what it involves:

  • All surfaces wiped top to bottom: ceilings first, then walls, trim, baseboards, floors last (otherwise the dust just falls back down)
  • Inside cabinets and drawers, because construction dust doesn’t care if doors were closed
  • Scraping adhesive, paint spots, and sticker residue off glass
  • Vacuuming air vents and returns
  • Detail work on new fixtures and hardware
  • Floors done in multiple passes

Skip a step or do them out of order and you’re starting over.

When to book

Don’t schedule it the same day your contractor finishes. Give it 24 to 48 hours for airborne dust to settle. Clean too early and half of it lands on your freshly wiped surfaces overnight.

And make sure the contractors are actually done. We’ve shown up to places where the electrician still had to come back. More work after the clean means more mess, which nobody wants.

Why PureMaids for this

We’ve done post-renovation cleans across Toronto and the GTA for years. Condos in midtown after gut renos. Houses in Scarborough after kitchen overhauls. Basement apartments in the west end.

Any maid service in Toronto that quotes you two hours for a post-reno clean is cutting corners. This work takes time, and we don’t rush it.

Reach out to PureMaids before your renovation wraps up. We’ll get the place ready so you can actually enjoy what you just paid for.
